Once we were settled in, we gave our friends a call hoping to make a plan to meet up for dinner or even just coffee just to catch up. As it turned out, his folks were visiting and they were kind and gracious enough to invite us to tag along on some of there sight-seeing adventures!!
That evening, for example, they were having a cookout with some friends and invited us to crash the party, which we accepted. Through the course of the conversation with one if the guys, learned Missouri was a common connection because his family used to own the Osceola Cheese Factory!! Military life sure exemplifies what a small world it truly is!!!
Anyway, the next day, we all picked up lunch at the food court on base, then headed to the park at the Kintai Bridge for a picnic and to visit the Iwakuni Castle.

Just an example of what driving (riding actually, since this pic was taken from the passenger seat!) was like on some of those little roads!!
Our first glimpse (behind the railing) of the unique Kintai Bridge!
I was quite impressed with their decorative street lights!!
The azaleas were in full bloom and GORgeous!!!
We found a great picnic spot with this fabulous view. You can just make out the Iwakuni Castle on top of the ridge.
We were not the only ones out enjoying this beautiful day!!
After lunch, we meandered around the little shopping area.
I couldn't resist the picture spot with Allison!
Nor, could we resist ice cream for dessert...
Banana with chocolate sauce and tiramasu--YUM!!

Now to explore the park before catching the lift to the top of the ridge and the castle.
