We awoke the morning of May 10, 2013, so excited!! Rodney was in the midst of a two-week leave and we were headed OFF-island for a week and to celebrate our anniversary!! We were making another trip to mainland Japan, this time to Iwakuni with plans to visit Hiroshima, Miyajima and the floating Torii, and the bumpy Kintai Bridge!!! So, we finished packing, dropped Truman off for a doggy-vacay with some friends and we headed to Marine Air Base Futenma to try our hand (for the first time!) at "Space-A"vailable military travel!!
We arrived at the small terminal early in order to help ensure our seats on the flight. Our first suspicion that something was amiss was that there was literally no hub-bub around the terminal. "Well, we are 'early'." Rodney went to the desk to learn that flight to mainland had been cancelled!! Our first attempt of Space-A travel had already become a classic tale......
We had a hotel reservation on-base in Iwakuni, so we called to inform them of our flight status. "No problems, just keep us informed." Whew!!!
There was a flight scheduled for the next day....but what now??..... what to do for TODAY!?!?! Truman was well cared for and our bags were packed. Hhhmmmm...... how 'bout we check off an item or two from our Oki Bucket List?!?!?!!!!!! So, after taking our bags back home, we hit the island roads and headed out for the oldest castle site on-island, Tamagusuku-jo!!!
