Kyoto -- Thousand Toriis Shrine

Entrance through two two-story toriis to approach Kondon Gate of Fushimi Inari-taisha.

The shrine was built to honor Inari, the Shinto god of rice.
Foxes are believed to be Inari's messengers, so there are a number of fox statues seen on the grounds and along the path. Some of the foxes have golden keys in their mouths symbolically holding the keys to the rice storage.
