Kyoto Pagoda Temple

Kyoto Toji entrance gate

This UNESCO World Heritage building, officially named Kyo-o Gokokuji Temple, was built in the late 700s and stands as the tallest pagoda in Japan measuring 57 meters (187 feet)!

We had picked up some dumplings at the train station and found a great little spot to enjoy them.

Our lunch views of a student group and Kodo Hall, originally built as a lecture hall.

Kondo Hall (the main hall), next door to Kodo Hall, houses three prominent Buddhist worship statues.

We did not pay to go onto the temple grounds, but simply enjoyed the views from the surrounding park grounds.

Hondo Hall

Worship places on the grounds around the temple

The massive doors to the grounds dwarf those standing or siting next to them!

A very kind gentleman offered to take our picture!

If you get lost, find a koban!!

Then, off to catch a train to one more destination for the day: Fushimi Inari-taisha's 1000 toriis...
