Our Navy Life Future

I've put this off long enough.....
Trying to put my thoughts together....

It seems, just as the sun was setting on 2012 here on our blog (and how's that for a Christmas Eve sunset!), the "powers that be" determined to set the sun on our Navy Life. To the outside world, we've been downsized. But, we are choosing to trust that God has a new plan for our lives.... a new road with new adventures. We would sure appreciate your prayers as we follow His guidance to determine that new road.

We're working through the gut-punch of the news, but it definitely helps to ease the 'pain' and catch our breath as we recognize the options available. Details are yet to be nailed down, but right now we are working on a plan. The Navy will move us back to our home of record, which is Texas, so we'll end up there for a bit, at least. My Texas teaching certificate has expired, but there are services here on base that will allow me to take the Texas state teaching certification tests to be re-certified, so I'll be taking advantage of that service. Rodney's the one with the big changes ahead in potentially a new career path. Right now, he's looking into using his GI Bill and going back to school. He could even take his GRE here on island for graduate school. He is also information gathering about the Navy Reserves.

Our timeline stands such-- instead of leaving the island in September as originally expected, we'll be extended for six months and separated effective March 1. We'll be going through a transition assistance class the last week in August which will give us more information. As said, the details are yet to come, but, I'll keep you posted as things develop.
And, again, your thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated as our path heads into the unknown.....

Out My Front Door in 2012

In September, I started a Facebook album titled
 "Out My Front Door."
I thought I'd share of few of those pictures here that I didn't include on any other post..... I don't think!

Faves from the seawall to Araha Beach

The Japanese typically do not care for freckles (traditionally, they're a sign of 'working class'), so even at the beach it's not uncommon to see some of them covered head to toe.

From this dock at the beach, you can rent kayaks and rides on a banana boat or tube (pulled by jet skis). The boat with the green canopy carries people to the fishing dock in front of our place.

Truly, a beautiful day in the neighborhood!!!

Ended up behind this car at a light. It really looked like they'd painted a turkey on the back! And to top it off, see the feet below the right tail light? It really looked like they belonged to a pilgrim woman!!

Driving down the expressway---
anybody need to (porta)potty???

I loved that this car place has both my name and a penguin in its logo!!

To use Araha Beach and Park, you must obey the rules!

Waiting to cross the street for an adventure..... ;0)

Christmas Day

Merry Christmas!!
Heading to the Bailey's for the day :0)

Our gathering sounded like the start of a good joke---
Two Baptist preachers, a Catholic priest,
and a Jewish Rabbi ......

Diane set a lovely table!!!

Awesome banners for Leora and Yoni and us made by Diane!!

Leora made Jewish bread "Challah" which Diane has appropriately nicknamed "holla"!!! YUM!

And now for the hilarious irony of our day---
(keep in mind the company)
our appetizers consisted of sausage balls, bacon wrapped smokies, pigs-in-a-blanket, and bacon wrapped crackers....... Can you believe all the pork?!?!?!?!
Just so thankful our Jewish friends have such a great sense of humor!!!

I also thought it was ironic to get Leora's picture looking over a plate of ham ;0)

Check out the photo bomber!!!

Post-dinner naps and games!

We had a mean game of Taboo that seemed to put amaze Diane!!

And what's Christmas Day without Christmas tree pictures!!

The only thing missing from this one is gaudy Christmas sweaters!!

Merry Christmas to all and to all a Happy New Year!!!
