Shuri Castle

Originally, there were several small kingdoms on the island, but in time they were all under one ruler housed here in Shuri Castle.

One of the gates into the castle grounds.

The original bell......can you see Rodney hiding in the picture?!?!

Rachel at one of the observatory posts.

Another gateway

We took a little break and enjoyed cookies and Jasmine tea in the tea house. It was served on some of their famous and beautiful laquerware.

The Shuri Castle area was the last line of defense for the Japanese during the battle and many of the pill boxes are still there.

Rachel and Rodney are on the spillway road between a pond and a river. I was down by the river watching the ducks and ducklings :)

The ducks are so used to being fed that they're "swarming" Rachel expecting that she has bread for them!!
