We awoke that morning, finished packing, and headed to the terminal to check flight status back to Okinawa. There were three flights headed there! Really good odds!! So, we put our name on the list and began our wait..... and our Space-Available flying story continued..... as one by one all three flights were cancelled!! Therefore, we caught the bus back to the hotel to see if our room (or any room) was still available, but the next occupants had just checked in and they had no available rooms. So, we headed back to the bus stop to catch the bus, once again, to the other hotel normally used for long-term stays. As we were standing at the bus stop, a sweet lady pulled up in her van and asked if we needed a lift and quickly ran us to the inn!! And, thankfully, they had a room available!
By this time it was still early enough in the day we decided to head back to Kintai Bridge. We had visited there on our first day with our friends, but didn't get to walk over the bridge. So, we walked to the base gate, grabbed a hancho (cab) and tacked one more adventure to our visit....
The bridge with the castle up on the mountain top.
Country side view downstream
View to the city side of the river
Rodney couldn't resist 'touching' the castle!!
OR another picture proof Rodney is HUGE in Japan!!
Notice the height of each step.... ~3 inches.
Makes for some tricky stair climbing!
Views on the castle park side of the river
Those step heights, I'm sure make it much easier to walk when wearing a kimono.
Good night, Iwakuni Castle!
Now to pack up once again and keep our fingers crossed we make it out tomorrow!
