Shanghai -- Shanghai Museum

Never ever thought I would step foot in a Communist country....

Beautiful plaza in front of the museum

The People's Museum is rated one of the Top 10 Museums in the world!!
And--- its FREE!!!

This lady tried SO HARD to get Rodney to buy one of her squid kites!!

Atrium lobby

Here are a few pictures of what we found as the most interesting or fascinating...
I'll also share what information I can about the pieces based the ChEnglish posted.

Fishing canoe from the 2nd half of the 20th century

I loved the colors and unique shape of this Tibetan vase from the Qianlong Reign time period of 1736-1795.

They have an extensive bell display.

Fascinating Fashions

These two are from the Qing Dynasty.

A small carved jade piece from the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Musicians in Stone (circa 907- 960)

This red lacquer piece from the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) was probably the most amazing of all. It's hard to tell from this picture (maybe you can click to enlarge), but the intricate carved detailing must have taken a phenomenal amount time and patience and skill!!!

We had evidently arrived at just the right time, for when we were leaving the museum, the line was stretched all the way across the plaza, around the corner, and down the block!!!!

Rodney got a kick out of this sign ;0)

And, I got a kick out of this one! It was a vending machine for key fobs, ear buds, and other small items!

Our day was quickly sliding by... We had time to make it to one more stop-- the 95th floor of the Bottle Opener!!

Shanghai -- People's Park

And--- we're off.....

...getting subway tickets to explore Shanghai.
The last day of our tour was a free day!!
Sunny had given us some ideas of what to see and do around the city.

Our first stop was People's Park.

We got there just in time to witness "zhenghun" ...
the arranging of marriages!!
All those papers hanging up are fliers of
marriage-eligible sons and daughters.

The discovery of a small amusement park inside the park drew the Baileys away, so Rodney and I went on on our own ;0)

One entrance to the park with the Radisson BLU and Samsung building in the background.

I'm sure this art museum would have been fascinating!

I got quite a look for taking a picture of this very exciting card game!!

We so loved the fall colors!!!

These girls started talking to us practicing their English...
or in their word "Chenglish."
One of them actually told me I speak good English.
I couldn't help but think, "Well, I'd sure hope so!!"

Shanghai Urban Planning Exhibition Center

Rodney spotted the cross on top of this building.
Turns out it is Moore Memorial Church which was originally established by American Christian missionaries in 1887!!
